Additional Guidance for Camino Preparation
Footwear & Gear
Break in your boots or trail shoes early — ideally from Week 1. By Week 6, your footwear should feel completely natural. Use the same socks you’ll wear on the Camino, and test your backpack with increasing weight.
Hydration & Nutrition
Practice drinking regularly during walks. On longer sessions, test snacks you’ll use on the Camino: nuts, fruit, energy bars, or simple sandwiches. This helps avoid surprises during the real journey.
Blister Prevention
Experiment with your preferred method: Vaseline, anti‑chafe balm, double socks, or tape. Week 6–7 is the perfect time to refine your system.
Strength & Mobility
Two short sessions per week are enough:
Squats, step-ups, lunges
Calf raises, glute bridges
Core work: planks, dead bugs
Mobility for ankles, hips, lower back
This reduces fatigue and improves stability on uneven terrain.
Mental Preparation
The Camino is as much mental as physical. Use training walks to:
Find your natural pace
Practice patience on long days
Get comfortable walking alone or with minimal distractions
What This Plan Achieves
By the end of Week 8, you’ll be able to:
Walk comfortably for 4–6 hours
Handle consecutive walking days
Manage hills and mixed terrain
Use your gear confidently
Start the Camino with strong legs and low injury risk
